Football back at Monroe!
Two things are clear now that the 2008 H.S. Football season is under way, Colerain's winning ways have continued and after suffering a 14-7 loss Friday night, Monroe's have not.

Osterman Signs with Centre College

Tyler Osterman, Hornet Quarterback, signed to play football for Centre College in Kentucky starting in the fall.
Tyler Osterman was also selected for 1st Team All-Academic Ohio for Basketball. Only 10 young men are selected from each of Ohio’s four divisions, based on academic achievements as well as baksetball skills.
Ken Meibers Hired as Head Football Coach at Monroe

Photo and story by Steven UrsoKen Meibers was approved by the Monroe School Board on May 27th to take over the head coaching duties for the Monroe High School football program. Ken Meiber’s comes from Colerain High School where he was the offensive coordinator. Ken Meibers will also bring Joe Ward from Colerain to be the defensive coordinator for the Monroe High School football team next season.

New Hornet Bowling Teams
Four years ago a number of Coach John Caudy’s eighth grade students asked him to help them form a bowling team, but there was no sanctioned play at the time. Nationally, bowling has become the fastest growing participation sport during the last few years.
After bowling became a sanctioned sport in Ohio last year, Coach John Caudy received permission to start a team. Initially he was hoping to gather enough students for a Coed Varisty team. He put out a signup sheet for interested students and hoped for the best.

Walnuts too tough to crack
Thanksgiving brings thoughts of all the things to be thankful for. For the Hornets, that was a trip to the state semi finals despite opening the season 1-2. They were thankful for the 10 game winning streak that led them to the match up with Big Walnut the day after Thanksgiving, not to mention the 33 – 7 record of this Senior class. They were thankful to have 8 players including the co-offensive player and the defensive player of the year in the 2007 All-Southwest District Football Team.

Silver spoon offers little protection against Hornet Stings
The Braves of Indian Hill played host to the Monroe Hornets Friday night at Kings High School for the Division III regional playoffs. The Hornets won the coin toss and as usual deferred selection until the second half. The opening kickoff was fielded by #12 Danny Gill of the Braves and moved out to the 27 yard line. Eight plays later their drive stalled under tremendous pressure from the Hornets and they were forced to punt. Their punt, fielded by number 12 Jared Ferguson started our first drive at our own 5 yard line.

Canal Freezes in Dayton
During round two of the division III state playoff’s, Monroe put the Canal Winchester on ice early. When senior quarterback Tyler Osterman was asked before the game what he believed the keys of the game would be, he replied ”We have to play our game.” Judging from the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter the Hornets were well on their way to doing that. The Hornets had a brief scare in the second quarter when Senior Brett Richter went down with a knee injury. Brett commented after the game saying that his sitting out the rest of the game was only a precaution.

WPFB's Coaches Corner at Buffalo Wings & Rings
WPFB (910 AM) is broadcasting the Coaches Corner at Wings & Rings every Wednesday night. Jack Gordon will interview Coach Krause and another head coach between 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Football films will be shown from 6:30 - 7:00.
