Superintendent's Report - February 2008

by Dr. Elizabeth Lolli

Hello! I’d like to thank everyone for the warm welcome as Superintendent of the Monroe Local Schools. The past twelve days have been very busy, but very exciting!

Monroe has a proud heritage of supporting the city and the schools. The support and pride for the school system is seen each time one sees the new school campus on Yankee Road.

In March, the community is being asked to support the district by supporting Issue 10. This bond issue is part of the original master plan started when the district was formed.

Walnuts too tough to crack

Thanksgiving brings thoughts of all the things to be thankful for. For the Hornets, that was a trip to the state semi finals despite opening the season 1-2. They were thankful for the 10 game winning streak that led them to the match up with Big Walnut the day after Thanksgiving, not to mention the 33 – 7 record of this Senior class. They were thankful to have 8 players including the co-offensive player and the defensive player of the year in the 2007 All-Southwest District Football Team.

Silver spoon offers little protection against Hornet Stings

The Braves of Indian Hill played host to the Monroe Hornets Friday night at Kings High School for the Division III regional playoffs. The Hornets won the coin toss and as usual deferred selection until the second half. The opening kickoff was fielded by #12 Danny Gill of the Braves and moved out to the 27 yard line. Eight plays later their drive stalled under tremendous pressure from the Hornets and they were forced to punt. Their punt, fielded by number 12 Jared Ferguson started our first drive at our own 5 yard line.
