Ken Meibers was approved by the Monroe School Board on May 27th to take over the head coaching duties for the Monroe High School football program. Ken Meiber’s comes from Colerain High School where he was the offensive coordinator. Ken Meibers will also bring Joe Ward from Colerain to be the defensive coordinator for the Monroe High School football team next season.

The Monroe Athletic Booster Club is hosting its 1st Annual Golf Tournament Sunday August 10. The location is Waldon Ponds, and the proceeds will go towards support of the student-athletes. HIghlights include:

a. 4 Person Scramble

b. $80 per person - includes green fees, cart, driving range, refreshments, cook-out, & door prizes

c. Hole-in-One prize: Mini Cooper car!

d. Shotgun start @ 1:30

e. Awards: 1st place team, last place team and the team in the middle

Step back into the 1980s with Footloose, performed at 7:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 2:30 on Sunday.

Monroe High School students have once again entered a number of works of art into the Miamisburg Art Guild Student Competition and Exhibition.  The exhibition features works from High School students in this region. This year’s exhibition is located at the Miamisburg Art Gallery, 161 N. Main Street in Miamisburg.  The show opens from 1:00-5:00 P.M. after judging on Saturday March 15.

Exhibit hours are weekends 1:00 – 5:00 P.M. and nightly 5:30-8:00 P.M. March 15 thru April 5.   Closed on Easter Sunday.

Are you Hungry? How does LaRosa’s, Subway or Olive Garden sound? Let the members of the Monroe Junior High and Senior High Band help you out. From February 1st to the 13th, the band members in grades 7-12 will be selling LaRosa’s and Subway Peeler cards. The cards cost $10 each, are good until February 2009 and are a great savings.

This month several Monroe Band members auditioned to be a part of the OMEA District 13 Honor Band. Out of hundreds of band students in the Butler County area, Floyd Leitzinger was selected as a member of the High School Honor Band and Kylie Beeson was selected as an alternate for the 7th grade honor band. This is truly an honor for these students and our school. Congratulations and good job Floyd and Kylie!

Thanksgiving brings thoughts of all the things to be thankful for. For the Hornets, that was a trip to the state semi finals despite opening the season 1-2. They were thankful for the 10 game winning streak that led them to the match up with Big Walnut the day after Thanksgiving, not to mention the 33 – 7 record of this Senior class. They were thankful to have 8 players including the co-offensive player and the defensive player of the year in the 2007 All-Southwest District Football Team.
