At its meeting on January 8th, Council appointed new members to the various Boards and Commissions. There were a great number of applications for these boards, and Council was pleased to see so many willing to serve their community. Many thanks to those who volunteer their time to make our City a better place to live. Terms expire on December 31 of the year indicated in parenthesis.

The City of Monroe has several boards and commissions that are made up of volunteers of the community. The following is a brief description of each. Mount Pleasant Retirement Village will host a candidate forum for the Monroe City Council candidates on Monday, October 22 beginning at 4:00 p.m. The forum will be held in the Activities Building, located on the corner of Indiana and Northwestern Avenues. Candidates that will be attending the forum are Michael Gilmartin, Bob Kelley, Suzi Rubin, Tracy Shell and Lora Stillman. The event is open to the public.

Monroe will hold its first (possibly annual) 4th of July Celebration at the Monroe Community Park.
A dedicated group of volunteers has been working hard for the last several months to bring a community festival back to Monroe. Local residents and businesses have been very generous in helping the committee fund the festival and fireworks.
This will be an excellent opportunity to meet your neighbors and have some fun in a family-friendly atmosphere close to home this holiday.
The festivities begin at 5:00 with a parade from the Kroger parking lot, down Macready and Main Street and into the park.
