"Gifts from the Heart" Provides Food for Area Families

Monroe elementary students will be involved in a service project each month this year to help promote community service.

During December, students will be collecting food items for Monroe families in need.

“Gifts from the Heart” Food Drive is an annual event that is in its 6th year. Last year, we collected enough food for 45 families. Over 214 people benefited from this project. The elementary alone collected 1,927 items. The Jr. High and High School collected over $900.00 to purchase food gift cards and the tubs to hold the food.

This project has grown from 18 families in 2002, 23 families in 2003, 32 in 2004, 42 in 2005 and last year 45 families. We will continue to provide help as long as there is a need.

Students will also participate in the Toys for Tots program and help decorate trees at Mount Pleasant.
