Monroe Local Schools Opens Family Resource Lending Library

Since the inception of Monroe Local School District in 1999, work has been done to improve the education of not only the students of Monroe but the community itself. Upon completing research of community input, examining results from the “Schoolhouse of Quality” study and looking at the data from a variety of school assessments, the school realized the need for a resource center for parents and families. After obtaining a generous grant for this project from the Middletown Community Foundation, work began in building a vast collection of resources to help aid in the parenting needs of this community. The Family Resource Lending Library contains books, CD’s, DVD’s and games that are focused on helping parents and families with all ages of children and teens to deal with the many issues that face today’s families. Some of the many topics include but are not limited to:

* ADD/ADHD

* Addiction & Self-Harm

* Adoption/Foster Parents

* Difficult Behaviors

* Death & Serious Illness

* Divorce & Blended Families

* Grandparents as Parents

* Medical Disorders

* School Related Topics

* Social Issues & Bullying

Monroe Local Schools is excited to be given this opportunity to expand their educational services to the community and hope that parents will discover this resource and use it frequently. The Family Resource Lending Library, housed at Monroe Elementary School, is free to any Monroe resident and can be easily accessed during normal school hours, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Titles and descriptions of the resources will be available for review on the school website: monroelocalschools.com beginning in May of 2007.
