The Monroe Optimist would like to invite you to help plan the Second Annual Christmas on the Plaza. We will be holding meetings beginning Aug. 7th at 7:00 pm at the James Monroe Community Room located in the rear of the City Building at 233 South Main Street, Monroe. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the planning of this event should attend. Ron Tubbs, Executive Director of Monroe Area Community Foundation, is pleased to announce the results of the MACF Theme Basket Raffle held at Monroe Light Up the Sky celebration July 4th and 5thMonroe Community Park. Historical Society Summer Meeting & Speaker

The summer meeting of the Monroe Historical Society will be on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the activities building at Mt. Pleasant. The meeting is the annual covered dish dinner. The program is 'Purlins, Posts and Haymows: a sneak peek at Ohio's historic barns, 1790-1950.' This will be presented by Mr. Steve Gordon who will profile the types of construction and special importance of these landmarks to Ohio's rural landscapes.

New School Hours Next Fall

New School Hours
Monroe Local Schools announces new start times for 2008/2009 school year for the Primary and the Elementary Schools.
Monroe Primary will have an arrival time of 8:40, a start time of 8:50 and a dismissal time of 3:35.
Monroe Elementary will have an arrival time of 8:25, a start time of 8:35 and a dismissal time of 3:20.
Monroe Junior/ Senior High will remain the same: arrival 7:20, start time of 7:30 and a dismissal time of 2:30.
