The summer meeting of the Monroe Historical Society will be on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the activities building at Mt. Pleasant. The meeting is the annual covered dish dinner. The program is 'Purlins, Posts and Haymows: a sneak peek at Ohio's historic barns, 1790-1950.' This will be presented by Mr. Steve Gordon who will profile the types of construction and special importance of these landmarks to Ohio's rural landscapes.

Please join us for a tranquil evening of fine wine and music. The jazz duo from Lyrica will be playing as you sip wine and nibble on appetizers in the courtyard of Mount Pleasant Place.

The Monroe Optimist would like to invite you to help plan the Second Annual Christmas on the Plaza. We will be holding meetings beginning Aug. 7th at 7:00 pm at the James Monroe Community Room located in the rear of the City Building at 233 South Main Street, Monroe. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the planning of this event should attend.
