The Summer Youth Theatre will present "The Secret Garden" on Friday & Saturday nights, June 27th & 28th at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoon, June 29th at 2:30 pm at Middletown High School. This show involves students in grades 6-12 who will serve as cast, chorus, orchestra and technical crew members. Summer Youth Theatre was founded in 1969 by a former drama teacher from Middletown High School, Jim Butch. Mr. Butch wanted to involve area high school students during the summer months in a musical production. The first production was West Side Story and due to the support of community businesses and local benefactors, they have put on great shows every summer since! In any given summer, SYT works with 60-100 students from as many as 17 area schools in Butler, Warren, Preble, Montgomery, and Hamilton counties. SYT is a 501c3 non-profit organization, staffed entirely by volunteers.
“The Secret Garden” is set in 1906 England and is a joyous tale about the growth and blossoming of the earth and human spirit that shows how love can open even the most closed heart. With a beautiful score throughout, it explores the timeless tale of young Mary Lenox who is sent to live with her uncle and his crippled son after her family perishes of cholera in India. Mary discovers a secret walled garden and releases the magic and adventure locked inside, changing everyone's lives forever. This beautiful and epic musical will inspire and move your entire family. Director is Tina Shatto and Music Director is Brett Greenwood.
