Historical Society Fall News

Hi Everyone – hope you are enjoying the changeover from Summer to Fall!
It’s hard to believe it’s October already. The Historical Society is VERY busy this month and we really hope you will join us in all the fun!!
First off –
Apple Butter is here and going fast!! We have pints ($7) of Regular & No Sugar Added and ½ pints ($4) of No Sugar Added available and quantities are very limited. Over 100 jars have already been sold! Please contact Jane Majors at 539-7109 or the museum office 539-2270 to get yours today!
Quilt Tickets are here, too! This is your chance to finally win the beautiful Alabama Star quilt! Hand sewn & finished by Society members. This would make a wonderful family heirloom to pass down over the ages. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Please contact Jane Majors at 539-7109 or the museum office 539-2270 to get yours today!
Saturday, October 12 at 7pm. Quarter Auction fundraiser with the Monroe Garden Club! Mt. Pleasant Activity Building, 28 Indiana Ave. Bid paddles are $2, most items are a 1 quarter bid, with an occasional .50 center or $1 item thrown in (usually for a roll of quarters). There will be dozens of nice brand new items and gift baskets to bid on. This is a great time to get some Christmas gifts! There will be jewelry, food, household items, gift cards and much, much more!
If you have never been to one of these auctions, now is the time! It’s super easy: an item comes up for bid, they hold it up, tell you how many quarters to bid and you drop the quarter(s) in the bowl on your table and hold up your paddle. They call your number, you win! It’s that easy! Preview and seating begin at 6:15pm, auction promptly at 7pm. Come hungry – there will be delicious homemade pulled pork sandwiches, all beef hotdogs, chips, sweets, soda, water and Leslie’s Famous Cheesecake for sale! (She promises we won’t run out before the bidding starts this time!) RSVP a seat or table to Judy Mann at 594-4845 or Jessie Hull 360-7453. You can also send Judy an email at barepaws@cinci.rr.com

Also on October 26, the museum will be open from 12pm-2pm for the special Civil War & Abraham Lincoln display in the exhibit room. There will be a free bus shuttle available from the park festivities to take you to the museum! This will be your final chance to see it. The museum will be closed in November to prepare for our big Christmas on the Corner event.
Thursday, October 31 at 7pm will be our General Meeting and Program. Mr. Ty Thomas, Executive Director of TV Middletown will be on hand to present “Haunting Stories”. There will be a short business meeting and refreshments to follow.
