Help A Hornet Fundraisers for Austin Pate

Eighth-grader Austin Pate was severely injured in a construction accident last summer. He is recovering, but this will be a slow process. The "Moms of Monroe" have set up several events to help Austin's family with medical expenses:

Tuesday, October 6th - Dough Rai$ertm at Uno Chicago Grill at the Union Centre location. You will need a donation ticket to present to server when you order and 20% of your food purchase will go to the Austin Pate Relief Fund. Tickets will be available at the September 28th Jr. High football bake sale booth or by calling Cindy Marshall at 513-304-8764.
Wednesday October 7th - Bake Sale and 50/50 drawing with winning ticket drawn at halftime of 8th grade game at the Monroe Jr. High home football game. Games start at5 p.m.

October 1-October 31 - Hyland Family Chiropractic, any new patient can come in and receive the 1st day services for only $40, and 100% of these proceeds go directly to the Pate family to help pay for medical expenses. 40 is Austin's football jersey number. Read more »

Football Jamboree a Success for Both the Hornets and the MACF

The August 21 Hornet scrimmage against West Carrollton proved to be a winning combination for both the Monroe Area Community Foundation and the Hornet football team, who defeated the Pirates by a 48-0 score.  In coordination with Dave Bauer and the athletic department, all proceeds after expenses were donated to the MACF, which is a nonprofit, 501 (c) 3 charitable organization.  John Singleton and Gina Miltenberger, the foundation's executive director and development chairperson, planned the event and worked at the game, along with foundation members Glen and Jane Majors; Jamie Pierce; Joyce and Elbert Tannreuther; and Ron and JoAnn Tubbs.   Read more »

Monroe Football "Camp of Champions"

Ken Meibers the Head Varsity Football Coach is hosting the Second Annual Camp of Champions! Football players that are entering grades 1-9 are eligible for the program. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, June 15-18th at the varisity football stadium. The cost is $50.00. 

This is a totally separate camp from the mandatory pee-wee football camp that is happening in July. Camp flyers are available on line at, and also at the front office at the High School, as well as the athletic office. Camp flyers were also sent home with Monroe students.

Football back at Monroe!

Two things are clear now that the 2008 H.S. Football season is under way, Colerain's winning ways have continued and after suffering a 14-7 loss Friday night, Monroe's have not.

Osterman Signs with Centre College

Tyler  Osterman, Hornet Quarterback, signed to play football for Centre College in Kentucky starting in the fall.
Tyler Osterman was also selected for 1st Team All-Academic Ohio for Basketball. Only 10 young men are selected from each of Ohio’s four divisions, based on academic achievements as well as baksetball skills.

Ken Meibers Hired as Head Football Coach at Monroe

Ken Meibers was approved by the Monroe School Board on May 27th to take over the head coaching duties for the Monroe High School football program. Ken Meiber’s comes from Colerain High School where he was the offensive coordinator. Ken Meibers will also bring Joe Ward from Colerain to be the defensive coordinator for the Monroe High School football team next season.
Monroe’s athletic director, John Singleton said, “This was a slam dunk for the program.” Singleton was amazed by the references that he received about Meibers. He received references from college coaches and was told that Monroe just got the two best coaches in the GMC.
Ken Meibers said, “It’s an awesome exciting feeling getting things started again,” and that he main goal for the Monroe High School Football program is “To take the program to the next level. Continue to be the powerhouse and go to state and win.” Read more »

Wee Hornet Christmas Tree Sale

This will be the Monroe Wee Hornets’ 7th annual Christmas Tree Sale. We are located at the Entrance to the Monroe Community Park.

This year we have added Cannan Firs along with Concolor Firs which bring us to 7 different types of trees. We also will be selling Scotch and White Pines, Blue Spruce, Douglas Firs, and Fraser Firs. Total of 280 trees.

HOURS:Weeknights Monday through Friday 5:30 to 8:00.

Walnuts too tough to crack

Thanksgiving brings thoughts of all the things to be thankful for. For the Hornets, that was a trip to the state semi finals despite opening the season 1-2. They were thankful for the 10 game winning streak that led them to the match up with Big Walnut the day after Thanksgiving, not to mention the 33 – 7 record of this Senior class. They were thankful to have 8 players including the co-offensive player and the defensive player of the year in the 2007 All-Southwest District Football Team. Read more »

Silver spoon offers little protection against Hornet Stings

The Braves of Indian Hill played host to the Monroe Hornets Friday night at Kings High School for the Division III regional playoffs. The Hornets won the coin toss and as usual deferred selection until the second half. The opening kickoff was fielded by #12 Danny Gill of the Braves and moved out to the 27 yard line. Eight plays later their drive stalled under tremendous pressure from the Hornets and they were forced to punt. Their punt, fielded by number 12 Jared Ferguson started our first drive at our own 5 yard line. Read more »
