Two Monroe Students Qualify for State Science Fair

Two Monroe Junior High students will be competing at the Ohio Academy of Science State Science Day on May 9th. Eighth graders Eric Stone and David Irwin, qualified by receiving Superior Ratings at the Southwest District Science and Engineering Expo at the University of Cincinnati. 

David Irwin entered his science fair project on Number Sense - Object Recognition Without Counting in the Behavioral and Social Sciences category. David also received a $250 award. 

Eric Stone's project on Evaluation of Waterless Hand Gel was entered in the Medicine and Health Category and received a $250 award as well. 

These students began their Science Fair work at the Monroe Junior High Science Fair. At the school fair, they received a Superior to qualify for the District Fair. 

Other eighth grade students will compete in a District Science Fair at Wilmington College including Abbie Fierman, Joy Valdez, Matt Thorpe, Shelby Wright, Jeremy Vires, and Adam Forkner.  Read more »

8th Graders Go to Washington

Monroe Junior High School 8th grade students visited Washington DC March 12th through the 14th to gain a real life understanding of our nation's capitol and experience history first-hand. 

Students began their tour of Washington DC by witnessing the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery. They viewed the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the FDR Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, and the new Pentagon Memorial. Samantha Streibeck said, "This was my favorite place because the information was very interesting and the statue of Abraham Lincoln was cool."  Read more »

Monroe Students Selected for Honor Band

On Saturday, December 6, two Monroe band students earned spots in the 2009 OMEA District 13 Honor Band. 

Percussion student Nick Dian will be a member of the High School Wind Symphony which will perform 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 1st at Springboro High School. Trumpet player Kinser Sebastian will be a member of the 8th grade Honor Band and perform at 2:00 p.m. at Middletown High School on Sunday, Feb. 1st. Read more »

The Monroe Jr. High Science Fair was held on January 30, 2007. New Hornet Bowling Teams

Four years ago a number of Coach John Caudy’s eighth grade students asked him to help them form a bowling team, but there was no sanctioned play at the time. Nationally, bowling has become the fastest growing participation sport during the last few years.
After bowling became a sanctioned sport in Ohio last year, Coach John Caudy received permission to start a team. Initially he was hoping to gather enough students for a Coed Varisty team. He put out a signup sheet for interested students and hoped for the best. Read more »
