D.A.R.E. Graduation December 13

submitted by Officer B. Kahny, School Resource Officer
I am glad to announce that we have had an exciting year with Monroe Elementary in D.A.R.E. We will hold 6th grade D.A.R.E. Graduation December 13 at 10:00 A.M. in the Auditorium.  If we can make a difference in one child’s life, it’s all worth it.  D.A.R.E. gives kids the opportunity to develop confidence and knowledge to make healthy choices.

• Re-Read – When taking a test, always remember to read and reread the questions to make sure the answers match the question. This is extremely important in multiple choice questions and extended response questions. Read more »

Monroe Police and School District Offer ID Kits

Monroe Primary School and the Monroe Police Department are working together to make sure children in the district are better protected.  On Friday, March 19, 2010, Assistant Principal Nancy Stratton and School Resource Officer Brett Kahny passed out ID kits to all kindergarten children.  The kits were made available through The National Child Identification Program.

Spelling Bee Winners!

Monroe Elementary School held their annual Spelling Bee March 8. Contestants were the top 5 spellers in Grades 5 and 6. Jake Begley was the top speller for Grade 5 and the Spelling Bee Champion. Jennifer Horvat was the top speller for Grade 6.

Veteran's Day Tribute

The fourth grade classes under the direction of Ms. Susan Knicely and Mr. Paul Mann presented their annual Veteran's Day Ceremony on November 10th and 11th. This program is designed both to honor our Veteran Guests and educate students about Veteran's Day. Each class at Monroe Elementary is now collecting donations for a care package which will be sent to our servicemen and women currently serving overseas.

Gifts from the Heart at Elementary

This will be the eighth annual Gifts from the Heart food drive. Every year the Monroe School Community joins together to help those in our community who need some assistance during the holidays.
Each grade level will be responsible for donating selected items. The items are to be brought to school and put in marked tubs on Main Street. Collection of items will begin November 30 and end on December 11. The gifts will be distributed on December 16th.

The following are the selected items to be donated by each grade level:

  •  3rd Grade: canned goods (all types)
  •  4th Grade: baking needs (flour, salt, sugar, cake, cookie mixes, brownie mixes and muffin mixes)
  •  5th Grade: dry goods (stuffing, mac and cheese, rice, pasta mixes, spaghetti, noodles, etc.)
  •  6th Grade: canned goods (all types)

Let's teach our students that the Holidays aren't just about getting gifts, but are more about giving from the heart. The feeling that you get from giving is far greater than the feeling of receiving!
