Monroe Teacher Receives Grant for Learning & Leadership

Monroe Elementary Reading Specialist Bethlea Pieratt received a grant in June 2007 for “Learning and Leadership” which was funded by the NEA Foundation. The Grant, in the amount of $5000.00 is to be used for improving fluency and comprehension in student reading at Monroe Elementary. The approved grant program will consist of a group of up to 18 teachers who will collaborate on a book study to examine their teaching to enhance reading instruction. The study group members will investigate work and data to develop practical ways to apply research to the classroom setting.

The Hive is Alive at Monroe

The Hive is Alive! Students swarmed into the doors at Monroe today, ready to begin another successful year.

The Jr & Sr. High had extended periods in the morning to find lockers, practice locker combinations, receive the ever-popular enrollment/emergency forms, better known as "Parent Homework" and teachers went over rules and expectations with the students. This year each building will be focusing on being respectful, responsible and being a problem solver as well as being prepared. 1st Annual Hornet Day on August 19

The 1st Annual Hornet Day will take place at the Monroe High School Sports Complex on Sunday, August 19 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
All Hornet Fans, community members and family/relatives/friends of the student-athletes are encouraged to attend. This event is an excellent way to meet all of the Hornet players, gather -autographs, and to show off your Hornet Pride! Read more »

Board Names Kelley Thorpe New Treasurer

The Monroe School Board has selected Kelley Thorpe as the Monroe Local School District’s new treasurer from among 10 applicants for the position. Her two-year contract, which begins on July 1 carries a $62,500 per year salary.
Mrs. Thorpe has been working as an intern in the treasurer’s office since January, and has been preparing reports and making presentations to the board related to the district’s finances.

Monroe Local Schools Opens Family Resource Lending Library

Since the inception of Monroe Local School District in 1999, work has been done to improve the education of not only the students of Monroe but the community itself. Upon completing research of community input, examining results from the “Schoolhouse of Quality” study and looking at the data from a variety of school assessments, the school realized the need for a resource center for parents and families. Monroe Primary Building to Open in 2007-2008

The former Monroe Elementary School on Macready Avenue will open its doors in 2007 with a new name - Monroe Primary.  Beginning August, 2007 the Monroe Primary Building will house Monroe Preschool and Kindergarten students.  The move is necessary due to the increased enrollment causing space constraints at the existing elementary.  In 2008-2009, 1st grade will join Preschool and Kindergarten in the Primary Building with 2nd grade moving for the 2009-2010 school year.  Butler Tech currently leases the building, which houses Greentree Health and Science Academy.  In preparation for the arrival of the Preschool and Kindergarten students, the building will receive several improvements.  In addition to the upgraded technology and electrical system completed by Butler Tech, the buildi Read more »
