MACF Awards 2010 Senior Scholarships

Each year, the Monroe Area Community Foundation presents several scholarships to qualifying graduating seniors at Monroe Local Schools. The MACF does so by utilizing trusts, memorial gifts and designated contributions to build individual funds to make the monies available. This year, the foundation awarded scholarships to the following recipients:

DR. JAMES AND BERTHA ANDERSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP awarded to a senior planning to major in a medical field.
Recipient: Benjamin Leahy plans to attend Centre College.
Presenter: Jane Majors, Scholarship Chairperson
Award: $1,000 paid to the college

DR. JAMES A. MACREADY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP awarded to a senior planning to major in a medical field.
Recipient: Rachel Klaiber plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University.

“President’s Award” Board Scholarship

The President’s Award honors a Monroe High School graduating senior(s) who has shown outstanding character and leadership while attending school.  The student(s) has effectively used his or her time and skills to benefit the community and school.   A scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to assist with future educational expenses, and an honorary plaque will be displayed in the main street lobby of the high school.  
To be eligible, a nominee must meet the following criteria:
• MLS district Senior who attends Monroe High school, Greentree Academy, or Butler Tech
• Minimum GPA of 2.75
• Desire to continue education after high school.
The applicant must be nominated by another individual who feels the applicant’s strength of character and leadership are an inspiration.  While academic standards are required, equal weight will be given to community involvement, personal accomplishments, and employment history if applicable.   Read more »
