Pet Food Needed - Can You Help?

The recent community food drive is over (THANK YOU MONROE for making this a HUGE sucess!) and all items have been delivered to the Shared Harvest Food Bank, PAWS of Middletown and Animal Friends Humane Society but...

We have since learned there is a huge need for pet food at the New Life Vineyard pantry in Hamilton (which services all of Butler County) and Franklin Area Community Services which serves Warren County. Reach Out Lakota also accepts and offers pet food for West Chester & Liberty Township residents. These are the only pantries in our area that offer help for needy family pets. I've spoken to all the pantry Directors and they have been amazed at the need to help animals this Christmas season. Not to mention our shelters and rescues are all overwhelmed with pets being given up for adoption – simply because their owners can no longer afford to keep them. Too often when turned away from a no-kill shelter, family pets are simply abandoned to the streets to fend for themselves for fear of the alternative. Read more »

Gifts from the Heart at Elementary

This will be the eighth annual Gifts from the Heart food drive. Every year the Monroe School Community joins together to help those in our community who need some assistance during the holidays.
Each grade level will be responsible for donating selected items. The items are to be brought to school and put in marked tubs on Main Street. Collection of items will begin November 30 and end on December 11. The gifts will be distributed on December 16th.

The following are the selected items to be donated by each grade level:

  •  3rd Grade: canned goods (all types)
  •  4th Grade: baking needs (flour, salt, sugar, cake, cookie mixes, brownie mixes and muffin mixes)
  •  5th Grade: dry goods (stuffing, mac and cheese, rice, pasta mixes, spaghetti, noodles, etc.)
  •  6th Grade: canned goods (all types)

Let's teach our students that the Holidays aren't just about getting gifts, but are more about giving from the heart. The feeling that you get from giving is far greater than the feeling of receiving!

Community Food Drive - November 7 - 22!

This Thanksgiving, Catnip & Carrots Animal Bunch of Monroe is urging residents to remember the animals, as well as the people, who have been adversely affected by financial hardship.

With surging unemployment, home foreclosures and the downward economy, local food pantries are expecting an increase in requests during this holiday season. As a result, the Butler County animal shelter and local rescue organizations are also dealing with an influx of abandoned animals because their owners can no longer afford to keep them.

To assist during this crisis, C&C is sponsoring a Food Drive from November 7th - 22nd, and requesting donations of non-perishable and unopened human and pet foods, personal care items and new, unopened pet toys or supplies.

All donations collected will benefit the Shared Harvest Food Bank, along with the Animal Friends Humane Society (Butler County shelter), PAWS, and Angel Animal Rescue of Middletown.

There are several locations where you can drop off items and pick up in Monroe is also available:
