Civil War Days October 20 & 21

(click for full size image) October 20 & 21 marks the 2nd annual Monroe Civil War Days Reenactment/Living History event!

This year’s festivities are again taking place at the Monroe Community Park, 500 S. Main Street, ½ mile south of downtown Monroe, and runs from 10am to 9pm on Saturday with live battle at 3pm and 10am to 3pm on Sunday with live battle at 2pm. Admission is by donation.

There will be sutler’s selling period wares, craftsman including a blacksmith demonstrating his trade, various booths, live music and a variety of food.

Some of the scheduled events are: Ladies Tea (RSVP only – 1st 50 ladies – young & old alike), Cavalry Competition, Fashion Show, a Pie, Jam & Cookie Baking contest, medical demonstrations including amputations and embalming, Civil War flag display, a Saturday night soldiers ball, evening lantern tours, Sunday church service, a variety show, reading of Civil War letters from the Monroe Historical Society archives, a quilt show, Meet the Generals and Lincoln/Davis presidential debate, an 1860’s no gloves base ball game featuring the Monroe Golden Lads vs the Monroe High School Baseball team and, of course, lots of black powder artillery, infantry and cavalry drills! Civil War Artillery Training

Re-enactors of the Confederate States Marine Corps, Co B, Ohio River Detachment, will hold a "camp of instruction" at the Monroe Community Park, 500 S. Main St on Saturday, March 26 from 9-3.
Exercises will include the basic manual of arms, safety, marching in formation, essential maneuvers, and firing of cannon & muskets. The public is invited to attend and watch the soldiers at drill. This is a prelude to the big Monroe Civil War Days event October 21-23, 2011. For more information, visit
