Real Men (and Women) Wear Pink

Monroe's firefighters will be sporting pink t-shirts during the month of October for breast cancer awareness.
Breast cancer strikes both men and women, with women having a 1 in 8 chance of developing the cancer at some point over their lifetime.
The department will be selling bracelets and running a "fill the boot" campaign at home football games on October 2nd and 9th, and at the Trader's World and Treasure Isle flea markets. Also, look for donation cans at area businesses.
The firefighters union is also accepting donations by mail. Please send a check to:

Catnip and Carrots Donates Animal Respirators

At the January 8, 2008 City Council meeting, Catnip and Carrots Animal Bunch of Monroe donated seven sets of specialized animal respiratory masks to the Monroe Fire Department and Paramedic Units. They will be carried on each emergency vehicle in their fleet: enough for the entire community. They could potentially assist animals in surrounding areas when called upon, not to mention canine SWAT units.
