As many as 28 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis, which is a condition of weakened bones caused by the loss of calcium. In the United States, 80% of those with the disease are women. The majority of people with the condition are unaware of it until a pathologic fracture occurs. According to WebMD, these fractures are occurring at an alarming 1.5 million annually.
