Seven Times As Good

Whenever my wife and I travel anywhere these days it seems as if everyone stares at us.  I would like to think that it is because she is stunningly beautiful and I am dashingly handsome, but I have a feeling it is neither.  It most likely has to do with our traveling companions.  No outing is quite the same unless we take all four of our canine babies with us.  I think they are the ones getting the looks that include the ‘oohs’ and the ‘ahhs’.  The looks my wife and I are getting are probably more similar to bewilderment, mixed with that underlying whisper of, “Holy cow, four do

Profits Over Patrons - Check Cashing

Admittedly, I’ve been out of the loop for quite a while now. For over ten years I have used the same quiet little financial institution (an employer promoted credit union) to conduct all my financial transactions. I have been satisfied by their customer-service and attention to detail ever since joining. Banking, if you want to call it that, was simple, efficient, and without pain or hassle.

The Traveling Gas Tax

One of the most exciting things about summer is the freedom to hop in your car and go wherever the day takes you.  As a teenager, I remember traveling all over the city and country trying to find anything to quench my thrist for adventure.  My friends and I would inevitably pick a driver and then head out on the open road.  It was in that instant that we were presented with the most problematic dilema of our travels: who would pay for the gas?

On March 7th/8th 2008 the biggest snowfall since December of 2004 hit Monroe dumping nearly 14.5 inches of snowfall across the area.  This was one of the biggest March storms ever!  I am going to start at the beginning and say back Wednesday March 5th we saw all the pieces coming together for this storm to hit the Ohio Valley. The storm was tracking well to our south and east allowing for cold air from Canada to invade the area.

Rollbacks, Appraised Values and More...

Happy New Year Monroe! January is typically the month when tax bills arrive. I got mine just last week. So, I thought I would take advantage of this month’s article to explain a little bit about how to read your tax bill.

The first thing to look at is the appraised value. You should see an appraised land value and a building value for a total appraised value. This is not the amount that you are taxed on. Taxes are charged on the assessed value which is equal to 35% of the appraised value. So if you house is appraised for $100,000 then you pay taxes on $35,000.

Most months, my financial report is pretty boring. We brought in this much money and we spent this much money, etc. However, this month I have some really exciting news to share with you.
